![]() Tapes recorded in other HiFi VCRs don't track all that well in it however, takes careful fine adjusting of the tracking to get the HiFi audio clear without buzzing.the picture comes out perfect though. It makes pretty nice sounding recordings with no noticeable head switching noise. It has L-R record level adjustments, digital VU meters and a front headphone jack with vol. You can tell my 1986 JVC HR-D470U was designed with audio recording in mind. ![]() I always believed they should have marketed HiFi VCRs more as an audio recorder than just solely a video recorder. ![]() I haven't noticed any quality difference between SP, LP and EP except that tracking becomes more critical for the slower speeds. As long as the tape tracks correctly, HiFi audio can sound pretty good. Head switching noise and ALC can be an issue for some older or cheaper recorders. response) with W&F<0.005% wrms for most VCRs. You can get damn near CD quality out of HiFi VHS (20 to 20,000Hz freq. Welcome to the HiFi VHS club! *bigthumbup* I may look at buying a (S)VHS model with manual controls one day but really for a freebie gift from a buddy, I am very pleased. To be able to make 2 or 6 hour hi-fi tapes can be a fun thing for me in this hobby. The AMPEX 289 S-VHS tape stock was perfect with only one audible dropout pop about 20 seconds into the recording. Again manual level controls may smidge it up a bit more but I heard no noticeable anomalies with ALC, again no head amp switching noise either. It sounded as close to the LP playback with out again doing a direct A/B comparison, as one may get. Yes, I wish it had manual level controls for the best of the best ability to get VHS Hi-Fi audio, but again playing back the recording of STYX, Cornerstone floored me. I mean I love my JVC DD-VR9 cassette deck, but it does not outperform the HR-D750 in Hi-Fi sound. This HR-D750 in EP mode with only ALC sounded incredible. I do not detect any head amp switching noise. ALC did not do any intrusive or audibly bad things. One would have to do a direct A/B comparison to maybe pick out any audible flaws. ![]() It sounded near identical to the LP playback. Once I finished the recording I rewound and played the tape. Ok, today I played my A& M mastered at half speed STYX, Cornerstone LP and recorded using an AMPEX 289 S-VHS tape. I was not sure if or what affect ALC may have but hey the vcr was given to me for free.Īnyways I have tried two audio only recordings on it one in SP speed (2 hours max.) and one being made in the EP speed for 6 hour max. The JVC HR-D750 is a good VHS Hi-F deck, it does only come with ALC and not manual record level controls, but it does have small L&R LED meters. Having up to 6 hours of audio possible onto one cassette is cool. I figured to make some audio only hi-fi quality recordings of some of my LP's. as I came into possession of a few dozen Broadcast/Prograde S-VHS T-126 video cassettes. Recently a buddy gave me an extra JVC HR-D750 hi-fi vcr he acquired from a thrift store for what he paid for $5.99 Cdn. Most of us are familiar with VHS Hi-Fi and what was for its day and still is a superlative audio recording and playback set up. ![]()
